Team GB: Kitting out the team for the Rio Olympics

We Know Data (in partnership with Sport:80) were approached by Team GB to provide a digital solution for the ‘Kitting Out’ days that occur before every major games tournament.

What was the client's opportunity?

Team GB needed a mobile picking tool to enable the smooth distribution of thousands of items during the kitting out week.

What was the solution?

We Know Data pioneered a real-time Claris FileMaker solution that handled athletes’ arrivals at the venue and then incorporated iPad inputs for the athletes’ measurements as they try on various items of clothing. A checkout desk with barcode scanners ensured that the right kit got to the right athletes after it had been picked by the warehouse staff.

How did our work make a difference?

The new system significantly slashed waiting times for the athletes involved and reduced picking errors, resulting in a smoother, more enjoyable process. In total, the platform assisted in the kitting-out of 833 personnel heading to Rio. This included some of Team GB’s biggest stars such as Mo Farah, Jessica Ennis-Hill, Tom Daley, Louis Smith, and Bradley Wiggins. More than 48,000 items of kit were handed out including 3,444 trainers, 7396 pairs of socks, 2845 bags, 1545 caps and 400 ties, all of which was recorded, managed and distributed using the new, custom built platform.
